Chennai Super Kings will have to cope with another significant injury setback in their IPL 2026 campaign, as English all-rounder Jamie Overton is on his way back to England due to an injury to his right thigh. The injury comes at a pivotal point during CSK’s efforts to qualify for the playoffs.
On Wednesday evening, CSK announced that Overton would be returning to the UK for continued assessment and treatment. Later, England’s pacer posted on Instagram an emotional, gutted message, saying that he could not complete the job before having to leave early.
South African all-rounder Dian Forrester has been signed by CSK for INR 75 lakh to replace Overton. He is a 25-year-old who recently made his international T20I debut for the South African national team in March, and he was also on the Joburg Super Kings roster at the SA20 2025-26 season. CSK Head Coach Stephen Fleming has indicated that Forrester is on his way to India and will be arriving in Chennai to link up with the team.
Fleming said the franchise is dealing with lots of injuries this season. Ramakrishna Ghosh got an injury to his foot after making his debut; Nathan Ellis, Khaleel Ahmed and Ayush Mhatre have been injured and unable to play all season. Dewald Brevis has also missed games at the beginning of this season due to a side strain, and MS Dhoni and Spencer Johnson have yet to play during this season.
For CSK, the loss of Overton will be especially costly considering how much he’s done for the team this season. He has taken 14 wickets at an average of 17.78, making him CSK’s second-best wicket taker and was Player of the Match against Lucknow Super Giants, where he took 3 for 36.
Despite missing several key players due to injury, CSK is currently fifth on the IPL 2026 points table with 12 points after 11 games played and remains with a good chance of reaching the playoffs.
